Berlin International Film Awards - Rules & Guidelines

Welcome to the Berlin International Film Awards submission process! We are thrilled to receive your films and hope to showcase the best in global cinema. Please read the following rules and guidelines carefully to ensure your submission meets all the necessary criteria.

Film requirements

The films must be independently produced and not shown at other international film festivals (premieres first) .

The film must have English or German subtitles. Non-german films must have English/German subtitles.

The length of the short film shall not exceed 60 minutes, and the length of the long film shall exceed 60 minutes.

Submission standards

The shooting of the participating films should be completed within the past two years.

Participants should ensure that the submitted films are complete.

Movie submission must be in digital format and accept MP4 file format.

All films must comply with the technical specifications of the programme.

The submission process

All entries must be submitted through the official enrolment form.

A brief introduction to the film, a brief introduction to the director, a poster and a still should be provided.

The film should be uploaded according to the requirements of the film festival, please refer to the official document for the specific format.

Film censorship

The festival will undergo a professional review and evaluation process to ensure compliance with the festival's artistic requirements and technical standards.

The short-listed films will be shown during the festival and will be shown at relevant screenings.

Content of the film

The films must respect intellectual property rights and not involve copyright infringement, violence, vulgarity or objectionable content.

The film must respect human dignity and prohibit all forms of discrimination, hate speech and illegal acts.

Format

All films shown must be available in high-definition digital format (MP4) and must meet the film festival specified screen scale and resolution requirements.

Language and subtitles

All non-english movies must have English or German subtitles.

The format of the subtitles provided by the film festival should be. SRT or. VTT file.

The decision of the film festival

All participants agree to accept the final decision of the festival, including the selection, screening and other related matters.

The festival reserves the right to revise, cancel or postpone its screenings and is not responsible for any unforeseen circumstances.
